Our Responsibility

We believe passionately that we have a role to play in the communities in which we work. The main focus of our CSR activity is with children and the dominant theme is “play”. We help children throughout the world to participate in activities such as art, sport, music and drama. We aim to concentrate our CSR activity in the cities and towns where our offices are based so local staff can get actively involved. We regularly hold staff “volunteer days” where our staff assist in local community projects.

The Taxback Group makes a donation to Jack & Jill

We’re proud to have the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation as one of our charity partners. The work that they do every day is nothing short of amazing.

We first became aware of the work Jack and Jill does when one of our colleagues had a little girl that was born with serious complications. She described the moment that she was introduced to the charity as ‘the only lifeline extended to us when our world was turned upside down in an instant.’

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation provides home respite care for families of children with brain damage up to the age of 4 who have suffered severe intellectual and physical developmental delay. The charity also provides palliative care for children.

Helping children is a fundamental part of our corporate social responsibility programme. We were delighted to present Nurse Joanne from Jack & Jill with a cheque for €10,000 this month. This amount will provide 625 hours of nursing for children in need. If you’d like to make a donation to Jack & Jill or find out more about what they do, click here.

Staff Pulls No Punches At Charity Boxing Match

On Sunday 8th March, four members of the Taxback Group got their boxing gloves on in aid of Enable Ireland’s O’Neill Centre.

The fighters on the night were Nigel ‘King Nidge’ O’Donovan (TBI) Vs James ‘The Hurricane’ Murphy (Connect Ireland) and Eanna ‘The Bear’ Brady (TBI) Vs Mark ‘The Undefeated’ Graham (Taxback.com).

Despite only having a total of 8 weeks’ training, the boxers were impressive on the night and both fights were hard fought.

As it turns out, sometimes crime does pay, as King Nidge prevailed on the night over The Hurricane. The Undefeated also lived up to his name by beating The Bear, despite the beast’s brute strength. It was a great night and we were all very proud of the valiant fighters. Well done lads!

Taxback.com Great Irish Bake for Temple Street

It’s fair to say that more than a few of us in Taxback.com have a sweet tooth as there was a great response to the Great Irish Bake for Temple Street this week.

The idea behind the event was a simple one; bring in some baked treats and get people to make a donation to Temple Street in return for sampling them.

Temple Street very kindly sent us some cheerful yellow balloons, Great Irish Bake stickers and napkins to decorate our office.

On the morning of the Great Irish Bake, the fruits of everyone’s labour were clear to see. There was an array of mouth-watering treats including layer cake, carrot cake muffins, fairy cakes, strudel turnovers and some old-school favourites like Rice Krispie buns and Victoria Sponge. We all gathered together at 11am to sample the treats and applaud the efforts and expertise of everyone.

The Great Irish Bake for Temple Street has been a very popular fundraiser for the hospital since 2009 and has raised a staggering €500,000 through 2000 cake sales throughout Ireland.

This year’s proceeds are going towards building a new Neurology and Renal Outpatients Unit which will make a huge difference to the lives of 6,000 sick children and their patients. If you’d like to make a donation to Temple Street, click here.

Taxback.com adopts a pig for Jack and Jill

Taxback.com has been a proud supporter of Jack and Jill for a few years now so we were delighted to support their latest initiative – Pigs on Parade.

This creative fundraiser involved a collection of 100 porcelain pigs being decorated by local artists and celebrities, displayed around Dublin and then put up for auction.

There was an amazing display of creativity on show with all sorts of themes and characters represented. The pigs were auctioned at a very enjoyable event in the Doubletree by Hilton hotel. We had a great time and were delighted to snap up a pig for ourselves – the brightly coloured ‘Iron Pig.’

All proceedings went towards providing home nursing for families of children aged up to the age of four with brain damage so it was an excellent cause. Jack and Jill relies heavily on funding so initiatives like this are vital for the future of the charity.

Taxback.com funds Temple Street’s Pet Therapy programme

We’ve got a lot of dog lovers in our midst and so it’s with delight that we’ve once again sponsored the Pet Therapy Programme in Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Dublin.

The programme arranges for a dog to come into the hospital once a week to visit the children and take their minds off their illness. It’s particularly welcomed by the kids who are missing their dogs at home.

The health benefits of pet therapy has been explored for several years and is used in many hospitals and care homes. The animals are all specially trained and are very gentle with the patients they’re visiting.

Last time we visited the hospital, we met a retriever called Max who has subsequently retired. This time, we met an adorable little Yorkshire Terrier named Buttons. We saw this little princess bring smiles to many kids’ faces.

During our visit, she was sitting on the bed of a little boy who was waiting for an operation. Petting Buttons was a lovely distraction for the boy and his parents at a stressful time.

Temple Street carries out amazing work every day. We’re proud to be associated with this very special place.

The Taxback Group Supports The Cancer Clinical Research Trust

When it comes to choosing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, we like to take into account the causes that matter most to our staff. The Taxback Group has long supported cancer research funding initiatives as unfortunately most of us know someone affected by the disease.

The Cancer Clinical Research Trust (CCRT) is a charity which supports a cancer research programme which is carried out by leading institutions across Dublin. The programme, which is lead by Professor John Crown, focuses on ‘translational research’ which is research that links the laboratory and the clinic.

To date, the research has carried out has resulted in ground-breaking treatments for many types of cancer. We met with Professor Crown to present him with a cheque for €750.

We wish CCRT all the best with the revolutionary work they are doing to fight the war against cancer.

Taxback.com supports Life Project Cambodia

Taxback.com is delighted to be supporting ‘Life Project Cambodia’ through our global corporate social responsibility scheme. Life Project Cambodia is a non-governmental organisation which aims to improve the lives of children, young people, their families and the local community.

We got involved with their Student Sponsorship Program this month. The scheme provides the opportunity to sponsor a child that is a student at Rumdul House which is in Siem Reap and run by Life Project Cambodia.

Sponsorship goes towards education, healthcare, sanitation, medical supplies and a nutritious diet. For older students, sponsorship donations can make high school, vocational training and even university possible. The charity also works with the students’ families to ensure they remain an active part of their lives.

Taxback.com sponsors a 10-year-old child called Sokoun, who comes from a poor family. She’s a very bright little girl who dreams of becoming a teacher. Eileen Devereux from our Sydney Office spoke about the sponsorship recently. “Life Project Cambodia really is a fantastic charity. Vin and his team are doing amazing work at Rumdul House. We’re delighted to sponsor Sokoun and we’d love to see her dream of being a teacher become a reality some day.”

We wish Life Project Cambodia all the best and look forward to supporting them in the future.

Taxback.com Supports the Dublin Choral Foundation

Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy is built around the slogan ‘Let the children play’. This encompasses supporting many different activities for children such as sport, music, drama and the arts.

Our latest initiative was to sponsor the Dublin Choral Foundation. The Foundation is comprised of two choirs: The Lassus Scholars (young adults) and the Piccolo Lasso (children). The choirs have gained international recognition singing choral masterpieces.

The foundation provides a great opportunity for children to learn to read and perform music. We were delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor the foundation.

Their latest performance took place at the National Concert Hall and was a great success. Well done to everyone in the Dublin Choral Foundation!

Art therapy for sick children

This year, Taxback.com continued its tradition of sponsoring an art therapy programme for sick children, in Varna, Bulgaria.

Since 2011, we’ve been providing art therapy for the patients in the children’s haematology and oncology ward in the St. Marina University Hospital. The ARTON programme organises for artists and psychologists to work with the children on their chosen type of art, whether it be painting, puppet-making or drawing.

Many of the children are battling serious illness so the art therapy can provide an important outlet for them to express their emotions and distract from the treatment they are receiving.

Our support of the ARTON programme fits in with our corporate social responsibility theme of ‘play’. Through this initiative we provide art, music and sports to children who would otherwise not be able to avail of such opportunities. We’re delighted to be helping these children.

Taxback.com makes donation to the Jack & Jill Foundation

We’re supported the Jack & Jill Children’s Charity for over three years and we never stop marvelling at the great work that this charity does.

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation provides home respite care for families of children with brain damage up to the age of 4 who have suffered severe intellectual and physical developmental delay. The charity also provides end-of-life care to all children up to the age of 4 years.

We’ve heard from some of the parents who have experienced first-hand the support the charity provides. One parent of a little girl who was born with serious complications said that it was the ‘only lifeline extended to us when our world was turned upside down in an instant.’

We’re delighted to have been able to make a donation of €10,000 towards the amazing work that Jack & Jill is doing for families in Ireland. One hour of nursing care costs €16 so our donation will provide 625 hours of care for children in need.
